Congress is Thinking of Allowing Online Gambling

It’s about time the government repealed the 1938 Wire Act, which prohibited online gambling and other forms of gambling via the Internet. Congress has been considering the issue for a couple of years now, and a recent bill, the Internet Gambling Accountability and Consumer Protection Act, is looking to be the law of the land.

Supporters of the bill include folks like New York’s Senator Chuck Schumer, who says that the measure would make the Internet a safer place and ensure that gambling via the Internet is age-restricted and tax-paid. Sen. Schumer’s bill is the preferred one, and the more-far-reaching Internet Gambling ฝากถอนไม่มีขั้นต่ำ Accountability and Consumer Protection Act has a long way to go before reaching the Senate floor for a vote.

The bill would require the Secretary of the Treasury to create a consumer protection plan for online gambling. The government would then have two years to develop the plan, which would include such measures as expanded protections for minors and ensuring that gambling through the Internet is age-restricted.

The measure would also protect states from the effect of gambling on their citizens.

Senate leaders have also suggested that they would prefer to see a bill crafted by the senate Judiciary Committee be the law. The committee, they say, is better suited to deal with the issues that come up with online gambling, like providing the kind of consumer protections Schumer wants, and ensuring that online gambling is age-restricted. The Judiciary Committee, moreover, already has the online gambling bill that it will use as its template in its current work.

The alternative bill, the Internet Gambling Accountability and Consumer Protection Act, would require the Federal Trade Commission to create a report on the issues surrounding online gambling. It would ฝากถอนไม่มีขั้นต่ำ also require the FTC to look at the progress of the United States in regulating the online gambling industry.

Congress needs to pass legislation that will allow the online gambling industry to operate in a safe environment, one in which the industry is age-restricted and the consumers protected. For all the talk of the social ills that come from gambling, the industry is having more than enough problems as it is. There is no reason that government needs to be involved.
